The producer of the Oscars has apologized to Whoopi Goldberg for not including her in a montage of past hosts of the Academy Awards at Sunday night's ceremony.

Gil Cates told that the omission of Goldberg in the clip was "an absolute oversight."

The 52-year-old Goldberg has received two Oscar nominations, winning for her role as Oda Mae Brown in 1990's 'Ghost.' She hosted the event in 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2002. She did, however, appear as an Oscar winner in a separate montage Sunday night.

The actress, who has twice hosted the Oscars and is a previous Best Supporting Actress winner, fought back tears as she spoke of her disappointment during her morning TV show The View on Monday.

Later, Whoopi Goldberg has accepted the apology from producer Gil Cates. 
Goldberg, who called Cates a "great gentleman," accepted his apology.
She said she has "moved on" since choking up on Monday's show when her fellow co-hosts discussed how she was left out of the clip.
