'Elm Street' comeback

The Nightmare on Elm Street isn't over.

U.S. studio New Line is in talks with horror production company Platinum Dunes to re-launch the movie series, which started with the 1984 film directed by Wes Craven.

There were nine films and two TV movies based on Nightmare's villain, Freddy Krueger, a serial killer who returns from the dead to terrorize teens in their dreams.

The original Freddy Krueger was played by Robert Englund.

Producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form say the next film could focus on part of Krueger's backstory, but they're going to have to wait until the U.S. screenwriters' strike is over before they get a script.

New Line is working on another re-launch — Friday the 13th, to be directed by Marcus Nispel, who created the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The producers are also considering a remake of The Birds
