George Clooney and
Don Cheadle, co-stars in "Ocean's Eleven" and its two sequels, have received this year's Men of Peace Award in Rome.
The U.S. actors were recognized at the 8th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates for their humanitarian work "in favor of peace in the troubled region of Darfur and for having contributed toward saving lives and alleviating the suffering of the civilian victims of the war," ANSA reported Thursday.
The pair helped establish Not On Our Watch, an organization created to attract world-wide attention to violence and poverty in Darfur.
"We are here to give a voice to those who otherwise would not be listened to. And speaking of voices, it's time that those of heads of state be heard. Peace, like war, is a process which must move forward'," Clooney said in accepting his award.
"But we are here also to recognize an example of failure, if we consider the atrocities which continue to take place in Darfur."
Cheadle has starred in the film "Hotel Rwanda" and the documentary "Darfur Now." Clooney also appears in "Darfur Now."
