The Service Employees International Union unveiled a rolling billboard, urging movie studios and TV networks to "Do the Write Thing," in Los Angeles Tuesday.
Paid for by the SEIU, the mobile message pledged the support of its 1.9 million members, including janitors, nurses, security guards, home care workers and others, to the striking members of the Writers Guild of America.
The billboard will be driven past major film and television studios, as well as up and down Sunset Boulevard, playing a recorded audio message about fairness for writers and all workers, the guild said in a statement on its Web site.
"This is about respect and equity," said Ursula Epps, a registered nurse and SEIU member who spoke at Tuesday's rally outside of CBS Studios. "When nurses fought for better nurse-to-patient ratios, we stood together and we won.
"Are you going to win?" Epps asked the crowd, prompting them to shout back, "Yes!"
The writers have been on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers since Nov. 5.
