A guest on a Spanish television talk show has been charged with cutting the throat of a woman who turned down his on-air marriage proposal.
Just days after appearing on "Patricia's Diary," Svetlana Orlova was found dead at her home in Alicante, Sky News reported Monday.
Orlova's ex-boyfriend, Ricardo Navarro, who made a "surprise" appearance on the show, has been charged with killing her.
Researchers for the program apparently were not aware Orlova had a restraining order against Navarro due to a previous instance of abuse.
Host Patricia Gaztanaga called Navarro on stage and prodded Orlova to respond to his proposal, which she eventually refused.
The Association of Television Viewers of Catalonia has demanded Antena 3 drop the popular show, while a judge for the region's supreme court has called for a review of such programs, noting they may exacerbate already-difficult situations.
A spokesman for Antena 3 told Sky News the station did what it could to determine whether any of its guests were dangerous.
"Antena 3 utterly condemns this killing," he said, without elaborating.
