Former Sen. John Edwards, his wife Elizabeth and Michelle Obama will not cross Writers Guild of America picket lines to appear on "The View" as planned.
Edwards, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. all also said Wednesday they will refuse to cross a CBS News picket line -- should those workers go on strike as anticipated -- to participate in an upcoming presidential debate, The Hollywood Reporter said.
"Elizabeth and I will honor the members of the Writers Guild of America who are on strike at 'The View' by canceling our appearance on the show next week," Edwards said. "I call on all of my fellow candidates and their campaigns to do the same. In addition, we will also honor any picket lines at CBS News, up to and including the CBS presidential debate on Dec. 10."
Michelle Obama was slated to be a guest panelist on "The View" on Dec. 5, but she backed out, the trade newspaper said.
"Michelle Obama will not cross a picket to line to appear on 'The View,'" said Ben LaBolt, spokesman for her husband's presidential campaign. "When the strike ends, she looks forward to appearing."
