The U.S. film studio DreamWorks is negotiating a move to NBC Universal as a way out of its rancorous relationship with its parent company, Paramount.
The negotiations between the two major Hollywood entertainment groups met obstacles over the financing of DreamWorks' films.
David Geffen of DreamWorks sought at least $400 million per year to cover production costs with producer Steven Spielberg. NBC Universal wants the studio to cover its own costs, The New York Times reported Saturday.
The relationship between DreamWorks and Paramount soured in early 2007 after executives at DreamWorks offices saw Paramount and its parent company Viacom ungrateful of the asset. Paramount agreed to distribute movies with the studio as "DreamWorks-Paramount" features to quell the acrimony, the Times said.
DreamWorks Animation is an independent company under contract with Paramount to 2012 and will not be part of current negotiations.
