Harvey Keitel is set to play the title role in a concert version of "Jerry Springer --The Opera in Concert" for a brief engagement at New York's Carnegie Hall.
Keitel, who is best-known for his roles in the films "Taxi Driver," "Bugsy," "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs," will play the popular U.S. talk-show host on Jan. 29-30, Playbill.com reported.
Producers told The New York Times that if the Carnegie Hall concerts are successful they will consider taking the show to Broadway.
"Springer" underwent a number of workshops before making a splash in a concert version at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2002.
National Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner later picked up the work as his first production, Playbill.com said.
The opera extended twice at the National's Lyttleton Theatre, then transferred to the West End's Cambridge Theatre where it won the 2004 Olivier Award for Best Musical.
"Springer" received its first full U.S. production in May at Chicago's Bailiwick Repertory Theatre.
Keitel has acted on Broadway in "Hurlyburly" and a revival of "Death of a Salesman."
