DiCaprio's girlfriend sues paper for libel
Israeli model Bar Rafaeli is suing the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper for libel, Haaretz reported Thursday.
Rafaeli, who is the girlfriend of Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, is demanding the newspaper apologize for publishing an interview with her last week under the headline "Bar Rafaeli against the State of Israel." The model's lawyers also want the publication to pay her $125,000 for personal damages after "she was wickedly manipulated by the newspaper's reporter." Rafaeli was quoted as saying: "Why is it good to die for our country? Isn't it better to live in New York?" Other quotes attributed to her are: "I am not sorry for not serving in the army, because I profited in a big way" and "I'll never bring a celebrity to Israel because they have chutzpah here like nowhere else in the world." Rafaeli's lawyer, Dror Arad Alon, sent a letter to Yedioth blasting it for publishing "false, tendentious and malicious quotes which lack connection to Rafaeli's comments." // Copyright 2007 by United Press International Publication date: 12 October 2007 Source: Archive
