The definitive director's cut of the cult film "Blade Runner" will be shown at two U.S. theaters this week and will be released as a DVD set later this year.
While "Blade Runner: The Final Cut" will be shown at New York's Ziegfeld theater and Los Angeles' Landmark theater this week, fans of the cult classic will have to wait until December to purchase the special five-disc set, The New York Times reported Sunday.
When it was released 25 years ago, "Runner" shocked many viewers with its dystopian view of the future and eye-popping special effects.
The film, based on author Phillip K. Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?," stars Harrison Ford as a cop hunting down refugee androids.
Director Ridley Scott said the new version of the science fiction film offers a darker take on humanity and its apparent lack of conscience.
"It’s a pretty dark world,” Scott told the Times of the bleak new version. “How many decent human beings do you meet these days?”
