Actress Lois Maxwell, who played Miss Moneypenny in more than a dozen James Bond movies, has died in Western Australia at age 80.

Maxwell, who first played the secretary to Bond's boss M in the 1962 film "Dr. No," had moved to Australia after being diagnosed with cancer, the BBC reported.

Roger Moore, who worked with Maxwell in Bond films like "A View to a Kill," remembered the actress as a perfect fit for the role of Miss Moneypenny. He also expressed regret that Maxwell -- who died Saturday at Australia's Fremantle Hospital -- was not given the chance to play M later in her career.

"I think it was a great disappointment to her that she had not been promoted to play M," Moore said. "She would have been a wonderful M."

Maxwell, who was born Lois Hooker, played Miss Moneypenny in 14 Bond films before being replaced by actress Caroline Bliss.
