Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey traveled to Venezuela this week to chat with President Hugo Chavez.
During a tour of the presidential palace in Caracas, Spacey talked to Chavez about film and cacao, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. Spacey also heard about Chavez' plans to rewrite the country's constitution and his offer to help negotiate the release of hostages held by guerrillas in nearby Colombia, a statement released by the government said.
Spacey is not the first U.S. celebrity to seek out the president.
Actors Sean Penn and Danny Glover and anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan also have visited Venezuela, lured by Chavez' criticism of U.S. President George Bush and intrigued by his plan to revamp his country's power structure to help the poor.
Cuba is the next stop on Spacey's planned Latin American tour, Venezuela's state-owned Venezolana de Television has reported.
