HBO Films is planning a dramatic movie based on the 1975 documentary, "Grey Gardens," and starring Hollywood actresses Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.
Directed by Albert and David Mayslesis, the documentary told the incredible story of how Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' eccentric cousin and aunt lived in squalor in a dilapidated mansion they shared with cats and raccoons on New York's Long Island.
The 1975 film also was the inspiration for a popular musical that ran on the New York stage for more than a year, ending this past summer.
Both Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson won Tony Awards for their roles in the show and Ebersole will reprise her role when the show opens this season in London, The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.
Whether the movie will be released theatrically before it airs on HBO is still to be determined.
