Rihanna wins VMA for 'Monster Single'

R&B singer Rihanna Sunday took the "Monster Single of the Year" prize for her song, "Umbrella," at the MTV Video Music Awards show in Las Vegas.

The award was the first given out at the star-studded ceremony.

Rihanna's song beat out Daughtry's "Home"; Fall Out Boy's "Thnks fr th Mmrs"; Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend"; Lil Mama's "Lip Gloss;"; Mims' "This Is Why I'm Hot"; Plain White T's "Hey There, Delilah"; Shop Boyz' "Party Like a Rock Star"; Timbaland's "The Way I Are"; and T-Pain's "Buy You a Drank" for the honor.

She accepted the award before an audience that included Jamie Foxx, Paris Hilton, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Chris Rock and 50 Cent.
