Poll: 60% say Hillary will be presidentA majority of those questioned for a new poll think Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., will be the next U.S. president if she wins the Democratic nomination. More than 80 percent of all registered voters surveyed for the latest New York Times/CBS News telephone poll said they think it very likely or somewhat likely Sen. Clinton will get the Democratic nomination and more than 60 percent said she is likely to win the White House in 2008. Among all registered voters asked, 46 percent of women view Clinton favorably, while 33 percent hold an unfavorable view of the former first lady. The rest are undecided. Although the survey shows women like the 59-year-old junior senator from New York more than men do, she is less popular with older, married females, the Times reported Friday. Regard for Clinton is highest among unmarried and less prosperous Democratic women, with more than eight in 10 working females saying Clinton understands their problems, The Times said. Of the 1,554 adults who participated in the poll, 1,068 were women, a deliberate oversampling designed to examine the views of different groups of women. The poll had a 3 percentage point margin of error. Women made up 54 percent of the voters in the last presidential election.
