Couric airs doubts about move in interviewNews anchor Katie Couric for the first time admits doubt about the wisdom of moving down the street from NBC to CBS studios in New York. Couric, Dan Rather's successor on CBS Evening News, said in a New York magazine interview people resist change. I have days when I'm like, 'Oh, my God, what did I do?' Couric told the magazine. I think one thing that I realized, looking back at it and analyzing it, is people are very unforgiving and very resistant to change." Couric discussed how she vented on a news editor by slapping his arm while telling him not to use the word sputum in a story on tuberculosis. She also detailed her frustrations with CBS' thrifty news spending after 17 years on NBC's highly profitable Today show. Executive Producer Rick Kaplan told the New York Daily News he plans to re-introduce a more traditional evening newscast with Couric as anchor. Katie brought a lot of new viewers, he said. Now we need to bring some of the previous viewers back. She drew 13.5 million viewers at first, but that fell to 5.5 million by May and edged back to third-place with 6.1 million.
