The man who plays "mustache man" in the summer blockbuster "Transformers" is actually a helicopter pilot instructor at Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M.

Air Force Maj. Brian Reese was just doing his job when he gave " a piercing stare" to one of his subordinates, but when "Transformers" director Michael Bay saw the man, he knew he needed him to play the iconic role of "mustache man," The Albuquerque Tribune reported Saturday.

Although the role has no speaking lines, he appears whenever the evil-doers show up.

Reese was amazed he landed the role, saying he was just lucky.

"He (Bay) was talking about it," Reese said, "and one of my guys walked by singing that stupid `Team America' song. I thought, `You've got to be kidding me. You're gonna walk by singing that song?'

"So I was like (stare)," Reese said, making what he calls "one of those death glances" and something in the director's brain apparently clicked.

"Michael wasn't looking for it," said Ian Bryce, one of the film's producers. "It happens. Sometimes you meet people and you start talking about the movie and suddenly the light bulb goes off. Michael's very good at thinking like that."
