"Little Miss Sunshine" continued its improbable march through the Hollywood awards season Sunday, taking the Screen Actors Guild's top motion picture award.
The story of a dysfunctional family on a road trip, "Little Miss Sunshine" -- which has been nominated for a best picture Oscar, and was named best picture by the Producers Guild of America -- won the Actor Sunday for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
Two heavy favorites won SAG awards for best male and female actors in a motion picture -- Forest Whitaker for "The Last King of Scotland" and Helen Mirren for "The Queen." SAG uses "actor" to refer to both male and female performers.
"Dream Girls" -- which earned eight Oscar nominations but was not nominated for best picture -- won two Actors Sunday. Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson won trophies for best male and female supporting actors in a motion picture.
Like Whitaker and Mirren, Murphy and Hudson have been nominated for Oscars.
