DiCaprio new film to cause diamond trade damages

Leonardo DiCaprio new film “Blood Diamond” can cause damage to the legitimate diamond trade in Africa.

IMDB reports that the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the US, Paul Simons, said that "significantly less than one percent" of the world's rough diamond supply comes from regions that are unstable.

Paul Simons' view was opposed by Charmian Gooch of Global Witness.

"The story is clear: blood diamonds are still being sold, and consumers cannot completely trust that these blood-soaked gems are being kept out of stores", said Gooch.

”Blood Diamond”, which also stars Jennifer Connelly, revolves around the civil war funded by diamonds that raged in Sierra Leone during the 1990s.
