Stallone donates props from Rocky

Sylvester Stallone donated props from his Rocky films to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington DC.

As BBC News notes, the memorabilia comprises a boxing robe from the first Oscar-winning film in the series and a set of boxing gloves from the second.

A pair of red, white and blue boxing shorts from Rocky III also forms part of the donation.

"I knew I was getting old, but I didn't think I would be with the dinosaurs so soon," said the Hollywood actor joking.

Stallone is at present promoting “Rocky Balboa”, the sixth film in the series. “Rocky Balboa”, which Stallone also directs, is released in the US on 20 December.

The props will be shown in the museum's Treasures of American History exhibition, alongside a cornet played by jazz star Louis Armstrong and one of singer Ray Charles's tuxedos, as BBC News says.

The exhibition itself will be housed at the National Air and Space Museum while the Museum of American History is closed for renovation.

Curator Dwight Bowers said the memorabilia "could not be better in conveying the interplay of sports and entertainment in American film history".
