Cruise at United Artists

Agreeing a deal with its owner, MGM, actor Tom Cruise joined the management of Hollywood studio United Artists.

The move will see Cruise produce at least four movies a year as well as taking an unspecified stake in the company, known for nurturing talent, as BBC News notes.

Cruise's business associate at Paramount, Paula Wagner, is also moving to United Artists as its chief executive officer.

It comes three months after he cut off with Paramount Pictures, who said Cruise's recent behavior had been "unacceptable", after a 14-year working relationship.

"We were looking for a strategic partner (for UA) and we've found a strategic partner and it just so happens that he's the biggest star in the world," said MGM spokesman Jeff Pryor.

As BBC News also mentions, the 44-year-old actor films, which include the three Mission: Impossible movies, earned more than $2bn worldwide. Cruise was named the world's most powerful celebrity by US magazine Forbes earlier this year.
