The Cannes Film Festival has always been an excellent pretext for the stars to show off their latest fashion finds and parade down the red carpet wearing the season's latest "it" dresses, shoes and accessories. Last night was no different, as the celebrities attended the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS party, one of the most eagerly anticipated and best-publicized such events held during the Cannes Film Festival.
Sharon Stone and
Madonna once again put in stunning appearances, and the same is valid for the other glamorous guests, the likes of Natalie Portman, Eva Herzigova, Sean Diddy Combs, Dita von Teese, Donatella Versace, Sir Cliff Richard,
Kate Hudson, Lindsay Lohan, Rose McGowan in a special way, and many others
Sharon Stone, who turned 50 earlier this summer, wore a leopard print Cavalli gown and draped herself over a red Porsche to pose for the eagerly-awaiting photographers. Madonna, who had worn a rather risqué sequined dress at the premiere of her Malawi AIDS orphans documentary "I Am Because We Are" a day earlier, donned a more demure and mature long sleeved pink Christian Dior dress, accessorized with matching nude strappy shoes. Frills were also one of the most popular looks of the evening, with Natalie Portman opting for an off the shoulder ruffled white dress and Rose McGowan wowing the photographers with her strapless, vaporous flower-print dress.
Other guests looked equally stunning. Burlesque star Dita Von Teese opted for a plunging bright purple dress by Gautier couture, while Donatella Versace, who attended the charity event as a special guest at Madonna's table, wore a pale green dress by her own label. The men looked equally smashing – and a little embarrassed in P. Diddy's case, who looked somehow taken aback when Sharon Stone sat on his lap during the benefit gala. Christian Slater (accompanied by his girlfriend and Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon) and Sir Cliff Richard also attended the festive evening, helping raise money for lifesaving AIDS research.
Kate Hudson was seen kissing Tour de France champion cyclist Lance Armstrong at the D&G party. “They were just really into each other,” a VIP partygoer told Us Weekly. “They would look at each other in the eyes and then kiss on the lips. While they were chatting, I’d notice that Lance would have his hand on the small of Kate’s back, or his hand on top of hers.”
Rose McGowan rocks out her foot cast at the Dolce and Gabanna party at Baoli, Port Canto during the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
Apparently the 34-year-old former Charmed star was running downstairs to meet her trainer and broke her left foot.
“I thought I’d kept my trainer waiting too long downstairs, so I was running and my foot just hit the edge of the doorway,” Rose told. “It just happens to be stone and that didn’t work out well! But I did not miss my workout. I stuck ice on it, did my upper body, and then went to the hospital.”
Stay tuned for more pictures from the event, if they are a little later, they are the best.
