Opening arguments in R&B singer R. Kelly's child pornography trial in Chicago are set to begin.

Jury selection was completed last week and opening arguments were to start Tuesday.

Kelly, a 41-year-old Chicago native, is charged with videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl some time between 1998 and 2000. He has pleaded innocent to the charges but faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Although the now adult alleged victim has consistently said she wasn't the girl on the tape, prosecutors are expected to call witnesses who will say she was the juvenile in question, The New York Times said.

Another woman also reportedly will testify she was a juvenile when she had sex with Kelly and the alleged victim.

This is a very weird case, Leonard L. Cavise, a professor at DePaul University's College of Law, told the Times. It makes Chicago look like a laughingstock. It's as if they said, 'Let's spend millions of dollars and six years, shut down an important courtroom, cause a media circus and end up either convicting him of nothing at all or on some charge that has nothing to do with what you really should get him on if he's guilty: sex with children.'
