The new Broadway musical In the Heights
was nominated for a leading 13 Tony Award nominations in New York Tuesday.
Following close behind were the revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific
with 11 Tony nods and Sunday in the Park with George
with nine.
August: Osage County,
Gypsy
and Passing Strange
all earned seven nominations apiece.
Nominated for best play were August: Osage County,
Rock 'n' Roll,
The Seafarer
and The 39 Steps.
Up for the Tony for best musical are Cry-Baby,
In the Heights,
Passing Strange
and "
Xanadu."
In the running for best revival of a play are Boeing-Boeing,
The Homecoming,
Les Liaisons Dangereuses
and Macbeth.
Competing for the award for best revival of a musical are Grease,
Gypsy
and Sunday in the Park with George.

each were nominated for six Tony Awards, while Les Liaisons Dangereuses
is up for five prizes and Cry-Baby,
Rock 'n' Roll,
The Seafarer
