Mark Rydell was born on March 23, 1934 in New York City, USA. He is an American film director, actor and producer.

As director, Rydell's films include Cinderella Liberty (1973), The Rose (1979), On Golden Pond (1981) and The River (1984).

He recieved an Oscar nomination as Best Director for On Golden Pond, starring Henry Fonda.

His last directorial credits include For the Boys (1991), Intersection (1994) and Even Money (2006), starring Kim Basinger and Danny DeVito.

He has been married to actress Joanne Linville since 1962.
