Wolfgang Petersen

Wolfgang Petersen was born on March 14, 1941 in Emden, Lower Saxony, Germany. He is a German film director.

His first film productions were for German television, and it was during his work on the popular German Tatort ("Crime Scene") TV series that he first met and worked with the actor Jürgen Prochnow who would later appear as the U-boat captain in Das Boot.

He directed The Neverending Story (1984), Enemy Mine (1985) and Shattered (1991), starring Tom Berenger.

In 1993, Petersen directed the suspense thriller In the Line of Fire, starring Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich and Rene Russo. It received three Academy Award nominations.

He also produced and directed the epic Troy (2004), starring Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom, and Poseidon (2006), starring Kurt Russell and Emmy Rossum.
