Striking stagehands and Broadway producers resumed talks Monday night, but did not reach a deal as the session ended Tuesday morning.

The first new round of negotiations, since the strike shut down most of Broadway on Nov. 10, began Sunday and ran until Monday morning. Both sides returned to the bargaining table Monday evening after a 12-hour break.

"The League of American Theatres and Producers and Local One talked through the night and were unable to reach an agreement. No further talks are scheduled. Performances will be canceled through Wednesday's matinees," said a statement posted Tuesday on the league's Web site.

"We don't have a deal. We made some progress, but we'll try again," union President James J. Claffey Jr. said as he left the talks.

Playbill.com said union spokesman Bruce Cohen added: "We got to a point in the negotiations where the two sides couldn't come to an agreement. At this point there is no deal and there is no date or time to reconvene ... There will be a deal in the future, hopefully sooner than later."  // Copyright 2007 by United Press International
