Harry Potter fans of Georgia state (US) can now breathe a sigh of relief, for a petition to ban the books from public libraries in the state has just been thrown out.

According to newkerala.com Georgia citizen Laura Mallory was so worried about the result the best-selling books were having on kids that she not only dubbed British author JK Rowling's creatopm "child-friendly witchcraft", but also tried to have them banned from public libraries.

The Georgia Board of Education refused to accept the charges, which was already turned down by the local school board of Gwinnett County where Mallory resides, as Contactmusic reports.

This is not the first time Rowling found her books the subject of a ban, for in September this year the American Library Association (ALA) revealed that there were over 3000 attempts to ban the book across the US.

But, as others on the list include writers such as John Steinbeck, for 'racism, violent language and sexism' in “Of Mice and Men”; Harper Lee, who wrote “To Kill a Mocking Bird”, J D Salinger, author of “Catcher in the Rye” and William Golding who wrote” Lord of the Flies”, Rowling revealed that she was more than happy to be on the list, and in fact deemed it a "great honour" to be sharing the same space as these legendary writers.

"As this puts me in the company of Harper Lee, Mark Twain, J.D.Salinger, William Golding, John Steinbeck and other writers I revere, I have always taken my annual inclusion on the list as a great honour," said the author.
