Ridley Scott to make a movie about Ronald Reagan

Hollywood director Ridley Scott has revealed his intention to make a film about the famous 1986 summit between late US President Ronald Reagan and former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

The meeting, during which the US and Soviet leaders discussed limiting the use of ballistic missiles, ended in failure at the 11th hour. But it was widely credited for bringing about a treaty banning intermediate-range nuclear forces in 1987.

The as-yet-unnamed project could be in cinemas by 2009, said The American Gangster director.

"I want to show who they were and why they did what they did. Their actions helped shape history, paving the way for the end of the Cold War," said Scott.
He adds, "It's less about visible appearance, more about the acting. (But) you have to acknowledge the physicality. Reagan was tall and elegant while Gorbachev was stocky, like a front-row rugby player. In some ways, Gorbachev is easier to cast. Reagan is more colorful."

Ridley Scott films include Alien, Blade Runner, Legend, Black Rain, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven, and American Gangster.
