Prince Charles' diaries to stay personal
London's Appeal Court ruled that a series of diaries written by Prince Charles of Wales are set to remain private and therefore not be published.
The decision Thursday by the Appeal Court's three presiding judges supported an earlier High Court ruling and ended an appeal by Associated Newspapers, who wanted the journals open to the public, UPI reports.
"The information at issue in this case is private information, public disclosure of which constituted an interference with Princes Charles' Article 8 rights. As heir to the throne Prince Charles is an important public figure", said Lord Nicholas Phillips, Britain's Lord Chief Justice.
Copies of the eight handwritten diaries had previously been presented to the Mail on Sunday, which is owned by Associated Newspapers, by a former employee of the prince named Sarah Woodall.
The Telegraph said that the journals, in which the prince makes disparaging remarks about other national leaders, will now remain in relative secrecy and will not be the subject of a trial.
