New Dirty Dancing remake’s revelation!

Elena Vnorovscaia / Chişinău / Moldova.ORG / -- The massive box office hit’s remake has its director now! I’m talking about the legendary 1987’s Dirty Dancing’s remake which tells us a teenage girl's (Jennifer Grey) rebellion against her father by starting a relationship with a dance instructor (Patrick Swayze) during the family's summer vacation. The star-crossed lovers embark on a romance that includes lots of dancing, dirty and etc.

And the director of the remake is announced at last. It will be "High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega, recently hired by Lionsgate to head up the long-threatened rehash of the classic about the power of dance and love.

Kenny Ortega actually served as the original dance choreographer on the Dirty Dancing movie in 1987, coming up with the dance moves that helped the movie gross over $200 million worldwide. Yes, the first film was a huge success, grossing over $200 million on a $6 million budget.

Also Ortega has worked on the dance sequences for films ranging from Ferris Bueller's Day Off to To Wong Foo: Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar, was also responsible for the Michael Jackson documentary, This Is It.

Ortega confessed: "The opportunity to direct 'Dirty Dancing' is like returning home for me. ... Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can't wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats".

Joe Drake, President of Lionsgate Films about the remake: “Amazingly it has been almost 25 years since the original film was released. We believe that the timing couldn’t be better to modernize this story on the big screen, and we are proud to have Kenny Ortega at the helm”.

It is still unknown who will play Baby’s and Dance instructor’s roles, but I know that Dirty Dancing remake comes to theaters in 2013.
