Actress Katie Cassidy has chosen to take a diversion class for first-time offenders after being cited in Tucson for underage drinking, authorities said.

Cassidy, the daughter of singer-actor David Cassidy, was cited on Oct. 30. Now 21, Cassidy was only 20 at the time and too young to legally drink in Arizona.

According to a report by Tucson police, Cassidy was in a pickup driven by a Tucson man who was pulled over because police couldn't read the license plate at about 2:15 a.m.

Officers questioned Cassidy because it appeared she was under the influence, with the smell of alcohol on her breath and slurred speech, the report said.

Cassidy reportedly gave a fake name and birth date but eventually admitted lying to police, according to the report.

She was cited on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol and false reporting to a law enforcement agency.

Deputy City Attorney Laura Brynwood said Cassidy agreed Monday to enroll in the city's diversion program, which is an all-day class on adult responsibility.

However, Cassidy could choose to have the diversion program find an approved comparable class near her Hollywood home.

A follow-up hearing is set for June 11. If Cassidy completes the diversion class, Brynwood said the charges against her will be dismissed.

Cassidy has been in minor roles in a number of movies and played a recurring role as Zoe in the television series ``7th Heaven.''
