Goya painting Children with a Cart stolen

A Spanish master Goya painting was stolen while en route across the US.

The work was stolen near Scranton, Pennsylvania, said a joint statement issued by New York's Guggenheim Museum and Ohio's Toledo Museum of Art, according to BBC News.
The work “Children with a Cart” was to be shown in New York at an exhibition due to open this week.

The 228-year-old painting, that depicts four colorfully-dressed children and a wooden cart at the base of a dark tree, with a billowing cloud in the background, is insured for more than $1m.

The FBI is said to be investigating the theft. The insurer is offering a recompense of $50,000 for information leading to its recuperation.

The painting author, Francisco de Goya is considered one of the world's greatest artists and one of the first "modern" painters.
