Clooney to open Dubai International Film Festival

The 4th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) will take place between December 9 and 16, 2007 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Since its inaugural edition in 2004, DIFF has presented the finest selection of Arab and world cinema to its audiences and has also hosted the talents responsible for the films and other internationally acclaimed celebrities. The range of films screened is tremendous as the themes and topics include politically charged commentaries on international conflicts, thrillers, science fiction, drama, docu-dramas, and comedies.

The festival’s theme is “Bridging Cultures. Meeting Minds.” The fourth edition of the festival will feature 142 presentations - including features, shorts and documentaries – in 9 programmes.

George Clooney's new thriller "Michael Clayton" will open the fourth Dubai international film festival on December 9.

The show will include 141 films from 52 countries. The Muhr Awards has a top prize of 10,000 dollars and will include seven world premieres.

"We have made numerous improvements for our fourth edition that will take us further in our mission to celebrate excellence in cinema and to nurture and develop local and international talent while also adding value to culture in the arts in Dubai and the UAE," festival chairman Abdulhamid Juma said.

For the first time, festival-goers will be allowed to vote for their favourite film in the People's Choice awards.
