Christian Bale is denying assault allegations made against him by his mother and sister.

The reports surfaced just days after "The Dark Knight," which co-stars Heath Ledger as Batman's nemesis the Joker, took a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend.

His attorneys released a statement on Tuesday that reads: “Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale.”

Yesterday, Bale’s mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, went to a police station to lodge a formal complaint against The Dark Knight actor.

Bale was allowed to go to the premiere but police in London were expected to question him soon after.

A Met Police spokesman said: “A 34-year-old man attended a London Police Station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault.”
