The world Bond fans had to wait four years for the newest Bond to hit screens, but his appearance was a real surprise for everybody. Even Queen Elizabeth II appeared Tuesday night in London's Leicester Square for the world premiere of Casino Royale.

The 21st installment of the Bond franchise stars Daniel Craig, a controversial option to substitute Pierce Brosnan as 007, given his blond locks (a first) and rather upbeat character.

Daniel is the second Englishman to take up the role, beating out Colin Farrell, Clive Owen and Hugh Jackman.

Asked how he evaluated to the five Bonds that came before him, the actor said: “It's not up to me to compare them ... I just tried to make a good movie”

Both the Queen, who met with Prince Philip the actors and production crew before the screening and Craig were applauded in equal measure by hundreds of cheering fans as they took to the red carpet.

New Bond girl Eva Green and Judi Dench, who plays M, were among many co- stars taking in the applause, while celebrities Sir Elton John, Sting and Paris Hilton also turned out for the premiere.
