Artists will pay tribute to Paul Newman
Broadway theaters will dim their lights tonight to honor Paul Newman, who died last Friday at 83. The Broadway League, a trade association for Broadway theaters and producers, said the lights will be dimmed for one minute at curtain time, 8 p.m.
The Hollywood star remains best known for starring in films such as Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid and The Sting.
Newman was in Broadway 1955's "The Desperate Hours" and in Tennessee Williams' "Sweet Bird of Youth" in 1959 as Chance Wayne opposite Geraldine Fitzgerald, roles they re-created for the 1962 film.
His last Broadway appearance was as the stage manager in a 2002 revival of Thornton Wilder's Our Town (he received a Tony nomination).
