Balseros

From the inception of their illicit journey through their attempts at assimilation in the U.S., a study of six balseros, or rafters, who were part of the 40,000 poor Cubans refugees, who set sail for Florida on makeshift boats in 1994-''95 while Cuba and the United States were struggling through heated negotiations.
The refugees fled their native country before Fidel Castro and President Clinton reached an agreement on keeping them ashore at home.
