New Line Cinema

New Line Cinema is the oldest and most successful fully integrated independent film company in the world. In addition to the production and distribution of theatrical motion pictures, it has divisions devoted to home entertainment, television, music, theater, licensing, merchandising and international marketing and distribution. New Line has been a pioneer in franchise filmmaking and its Lord of the Rings trilogy is the most successful film franchise in history.

Looking ahead, New Line will continue its strategy of developing and releasing a diverse film slate of 12 to 15 films annually across many genres and budgets. Highlights of its 2006 movie lineup are: Take the Lead, starring Antonio Banderas; Snakes on a Plane, with Samuel L. Jackson; Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, starring Jack Black; Little Children, starring Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly; Hoot and How to Eat Fried Worms, coproduced with Walden Media; and new installments in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Final Destination franchises.

In 2007, New Line will release two major tentpole franchises. Acclaimed filmmaker Chris Weitz will direct and Nicole Kidman will star in The Golden Compass, adapted from the first novel of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. The other franchise is Hairspray, which will become a major motion picture based on the Tony Award-winning musical and will star John Travolta as Edna Turnblad and Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle.

Together with its subsidiary, Fine Line Features, New Line is a unit of Time Warner.
