Uma Thurman, full name Uma Karuna Thurman, is an American actress.
Uma Thurman was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on April 29, 1970. Her mother was born in Mexico City, Mexico and she was a fashion model. Her father, Robert Thurman, was a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist studies in Columbia University.
Uma Thurman spent her childhood and grew up most of all in Amherst, Massachusetts and Woodstock, New York. In this period Uma suffered bouts with body dysmorphic disorder, later, in 2001, she has discussed this subject in Talk Magazine.
Thurman attended the college for preparatory boarding Northfield Mount Hermon, in Northfield, Massachusetts, but she left this school and attended to Professional Children's School in New York City to start an acting career. This one she also left before graduating.
Her carrier Thurman started as a fashion model. She was 15 years old. As actress she appeared in 1988, when she starred in the high school comedy Johnny Be Good and the teen thriller Kiss Daddy Goodnight.
In 1998, Thurman married actor Ethan Hawke, but they divorced in 2004. Soon she began dating New York hotelier Andre Balazs, but the couple divorced 2 years later. As People Magazine informed June 27, 2008, Thurman and Arpad Busson, a Franco-Swiss financier, are now engaged.
