Robert James Keeshan was born on June 27, 1927 in Lynbrook, New York and died on January 23, 2004. He was an American television producer and actor.
He was the creator and star of the long-running children's morning show Captain Kangaroo. The show ran in various forms on the CBS network from 1955-1984; its heyday was the 1960s and 1970s, when it ran for an hour every weekday morning.
Keeshan had earlier played Clarabell the Clown on the popular Howdy Doody TV shows from 1947-52. He also has appeared in some projects, including The Stupids (1996) and TV series "The Jeff Foxworthy Show" (1997) and "Hercules" (1998).
Keeshan died in Windsor, Vermont, on January 23, 2004, at the age of 76 of natural causes.
