Rinko Kikuchi was born on January 6, 1981, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. She is an Academy Award-nominated Japanese actress.
Kikuchi appeared in numerous Japanese films, music videos and TV shows before landing her first American film, 2006's Babel. Her performance as a fiercely defiant deaf mute earned her numerous honors, including a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination.
She will star in his next film, The Brothers Bloom, which will be her first fully English-language feature.
