Dominic Monaghan is an English actor who has received international attention from the success of Peter Jackson's adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings playing Merry Brandybuck and his role as Charlie on the television show Lost.
Born and raised in Berlin, Monaghan and his family moved to Stockport, England when he was 12. In addition to speaking fluent German, he is known for his ability to impersonate others and replicate accents. While in college he got his first major role in the BBC television series, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, in which he played one of Hetty's sidekicks.
It is rumoured, though not confirmed by Monaghan, that he lives in Hawaii with Lost co-star Evangeline Lilly. On January 23, 2006, rumours began circulating that the two had become engaged.
