Hendrickson studied at the prestigious Julliard School and was a founding member of the late John Houseman's The Acting Company. Hendrickson won a (28th-30th) Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Supporting Actor" for playing As the World Turns in 2003. During his acceptance speech, he honored his source of moral support with a joke: "To my mother, who saved to send me to Julliard to study the classics... I'm sorry."
He started in daytime soap operas: Another World, Texas and Light. Prior to his television appearances, Hendrickson acted in theatre.
Police said Hendrickson committed suicide with a gunshot to the head, the Associated Press reports. On Monday, local police officers were called to Hendrickson's Long Island home by concerned neighbors, and found the actor dead in his bed. He had reportedly been suffering from depression since his mother's death in 2003. Hendrickson was 55 years old at the time of his death. It was not known whether he left a note. Hendrickson's final appearance on the CBS soap aired July 12.
