• Tilda Swinton wins best supporting actress Oscar

Katherine Mathilda Swinton was born on November 5, 1960 in London, UK. She is a Golden Globe Award-nominated British actress.

She appeared in each of Derek Jarman's films, beginning with Caravaggio (1986). She also starred in his biopic Wittgenstein (1993)and Orlando (1992).

Swinton's multidimensional performance as a mother willing to protect her son at any cost in The Deep End (2001) earned her wide praise and talk of an Oscar.

Her other films include Sexual Perversions (1996), The Beach (2000), Broken Flowers (2005), The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) and Michael Clayton (2007).

Swinton, who went to school with Princess Diana, currently lives in Scotland with her writer/artist husband, John Byrne and their two children.
