Simon John Pegg was born on 14 February 1970 in Gloucester, UK. He is an English comedian, writer and film and television actor.
Educated at Bristol University, Simon Pegg started out as a stand-up comedian before making the move to television and film. In 1995, he made the show "Six Pairs Of Pants", where he met Jessica Stevenson and Edgar Wright.
Further appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and a long-standing role as 'Jools' in the ITV sitcom "Faith in the Future" followed. In 1997, he cropped up in a classic episode of "I'm Alan Partridge" entitled Watership Alan, playing a television director dealing with the angered farming community of Norwich.
Pegg also co-starred in "Big Train", a surreal and ingenious sketch show (from the creators of "Father Ted") which boosted his profile further. He played a lead role in the excellent but underrated "Hippies".
"Spaced", however, put him firmly on the comedy map. Written by and co-starring Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, this original and brilliantly observed sit-com marked them both as major comedy talents. The second series solidified the shows' cult status.
Pegg went on to appear in the film 24 Hour Party People and in BBC1's Linda Green. He played the lead role in Final Demand, a geeky, python-loving gas-meter-reader who is duped into marrying a vampish accounts clerk. He also provided the narration for That Was The Week We Watched in 2004.
He's received rave reviews for Shaun of the Dead, a "zom-rom-com" which he co-wrote and stars in. It's one of two recent collaborations with his Spaced cohorts; Edgar Wright, who directed Spaced, is the co-writer and director of the film.
Pegg married Maureen McCann on 23 July 2005 in Glasgow. Pegg is godfather to Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter, Apple.
