Sanaa McCoy Lathan was born September 19, 1971 in New York, USA. She is a Tony Award-nominated American actress.

She worked in off-Broadway and Public Theater productions and having starred in A Movie Star has to Star in Black and White, Imperceptible Mutabilities, Twelfth Night, Good Person of Szechwan, Three Sisters, School for Wives and Romeo and Juliet. Her performance in To Take Arms in Los Angeles was rewarded with a nomination for Best Actress by the NAACP Theatrical Award Committee.

In 1996, she arrived in Los Angeles and found guest-starring roles in Family Matters, Moesha, In the House and Built to Last, NYPD Blue and Lateline. In 1997 she starred with Della Reese and Meredith Baxter in the made-for-television movie Miracle in the Woods.

Her feature film roles include Blade (1998), opposite Wesley Snipes, Life (1999), in which she played Eddie Murphy's girlfriend, Love and Basketball (2000) opposite Omar Epps and Out of Time (2003) with Denzel Washington.

He also starred in Alien vs. Predator (2004) and TV Episodes "Nip/Tuck".

Lathan has never been married but had been involved with actor Omar Epps for a time.
