Jeremy Lee Renner was born on January 7, 1971 in Modesto, California. He is an American actor.
Possessed of an off-kilter stare that can be alternately boyish and demonic, Jeremy Renner has embarked on a promising career as a character actor and quirky leading man. After scoring the lead role in New Line Cinema's zany comedy, "National Lampoon's Senior Trip" (1995), Renner went on to book numerous television movies, guest spots, pilots and independent films. In 2000 he began a pivotal recurring role in the WB's "Angel" as Penn, a 17th-century vampire/serial killer.
Renner received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Male Lead for his breakout performance in "Dahmer" (2002) in the title role as the notorious real-life cannibalistic serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, a critically-acclaimed portrayal of one of the most infamous criminals of modern times. Renner parlayed the positive notice he received into his first major mainstream outing, starring opposite Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson the big budget action-oriented film adaptation of the 70s crime drama "S.W.A.T." (2003) playing an ousted member of the Los Angeles Police Department's S.W.A.T team who comes to odds with his ex-partner (Farrell).
He then starred opposite Charlize Theron in "North Country" (2005), playing her former high school flame and current supervisor at an iron mine in northern Minnesota who conspires against her attempts to stop the harassment inflicted upon the female employees by their male coworkers. While ÒNorth Country was playing in theaters, Renner was filming his next project, ÒThe Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert FordÓ (lensed in 2005), a western about the would-be member of the notorious James Gang who turns on his mentor (Brad Pitt) out of fear and delusions of grandeur only to be stiffed on the reward and later charged with murder.
Renner has kept his acting skills honed by performing in theatrical plays throughout the Los Angeles area. His most memorable was "Search and Destroy," which he not only starred in but co-directed, and was produced by Barry Levinson to stellar reviews. Between television and film, Renner has found time to write, record and perform his own brand of contemporary rock, which have been produced by Warner Chapel Publishing and Universal Publishing.
