Stephen Fry

Stephen John Fry was born on 24 August 1957 in Hampstead, London, UK. He is an English comedian, writer, actor, novelist, filmmaker and television personality.

His childhood and teen years were spent getting into trouble in various boarding schools, along the way discovering that he was gay, and ultimately a three month stint in Pucklechurch Prison for using stolen credit cards, until he studied hard enough to gain a scholarship to Cambridge University.

He joined the famed drama club where he met and befriended fellow actors Emma Thompson, Tony Slattery, Ben Elton, and Hugh Laurie, the last of whom became his best friend, writing partner, and eventually, co-star in shows such as A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster.

From there, various aspects of his career took off, making him a millionaire before age thirty. He still had rocky times, however, and following a "breakdown" in 1995 was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

He starred in A Bit of Fry and Laurie (1987) and Rowan Atkinson's Black Adder series and A Fish Called Wanda (1988). Another his roles include Peter's Friends (1992), Cold Comfort Farm (1995), Wilde (1997), Spice World (1998), and A Civil Action (1998).
