Valerie Harper was born August 22, 1940 in Suffern, New York. She is an Emmy Award-winning American actress.
She is four-time Emmy Award winner achieved fame as Rhoda Morgenstern on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and the spin-off series "Rhoda."
Valerie Harper is best known for playing upstairs neighbor Rhoda Morgenstern on the 1970s sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She played the same character in the spinoff series Rhoda (1975-78). She has also made many appearances in on- and off-Broadway theater. In 2001 she ran for president of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), facing fellow actress Melissa Gilbert.
In 2001 Valerie was back on Broadway starring in Charles Busch's hilarious comedy "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife". She played "the Wife" for a year on Broadway and then for another year in the National Tour.
Valerie continues to appear as a guest star on television and is currently working with her husband Tony to develop a series of health-related television specials. The couple lives in Los Angeles and have a daughter Cristina, who is also an actor.
